The CSO-NES Coalition of Civil Society Organizations in North and East of Syria, with its affiliated organizations, which are currently estimated at 164 organizations geographically distributed in the regions of Al-Jazeera, Raqqa and Deir ez-Zor, continues to work in the development of civil society, follow up on issues of concern to the local community in North and East Syria, and share activities and initiatives undertaken by civil organizations in monthly newsletters via the coalition website.

 

1. Some of the activities carried out by the Coalition of Civil Society Organizations in North and East Syria during the months of September and October 2022.

– The meeting of the Public Board with the Local Board.

– An expanded meeting was held for members of the General Board of Directors (the General Board) with members of the local bodies (the local board), over a period of three days in the city of Qamishli, in order to discuss several issues related to the work of the coalition of civil society organizations in the North and East of Syria in the past period, how projects are progressing, and the most important achievements of the coalition, as well as the mechanism for developing strategies for mobilization and advocacy campaigns, and agreement on advocating the cause of Cholera reduction.

2. Working on implementing a mobilization and advocacy campaign by the CSO-NES Coalition of Civil Society Organizations in North and East of Syria:

– A mobilization and advocacy campaign was implemented after voting in the expanded meeting by the General Board of Directors (General Board) and the local board in the city of Qamishli, where it has been agreed to choose the topic of Cholera in order to advocate and shed light on the Cholera Disease Spreading in Syria in general and North and East of Syria in particular by a vote of most Attendees at the meeting, as the local community is facing a real danger, and therefore work must be done to find emergency solutions before it becomes a disaster facing all regions in North and East of Syria , in addition to the work of most of the organizations affiliated with the coalition, awareness campaigns have already started explaining the symptoms of the disease and how to prevent it, considering that The organizations are members of this coalition, which contributes to a joint and organized campaign that reaches every region and every house due to the wide spread of member organizations in all of North and East of Syria.

– A hashtag has been worked on for the mobilization and advocacy campaign, which is: #Together_to_reduce_cholera.

– After agreeing on the name and the topic of the mobilization and advocacy campaign, the problem was analyzed and the causes of Cholera spread were clarified by members of the Local and General Boards, solutions to the problem were developed and stakeholders were identified. A research paper was prepared containing an explanation about Cholera from symptoms, causes and how to prevent, in addition to analyzing the problem and identifying the stakeholders, where there are specialists within the members of the affiliated organizations of the coalition, helped in preparing the research paper and setting up a working mechanism for the advocacy campaign by all attendees at the expanded meeting through:

1- Holding a joint press conference between the Health Authority and Organizations Affairs under the auspices of the Coalition of Civil Society Organizations to be aware of the danger and rapid intervention

2- Pressure on International Organizations

3- Creating a media momentum by publishing hashtags and posters on social media pages

4- Communicating with the Services and Municipalities Authority and pressing for taking serious steps regarding the spread of Cholera

5- Conducting an interview with specialized doctors in order to create an awareness video about cholera

– Anwar Al-Ghad Organization

Today, the first community dialogue sessions for women were launched, focusing on the needs of the women in the city of Al Raqqa and proposing solutions and recommendations for that.

Nexttep Organization held a focused dialogue session on the reality of basic services in North and East of Syria, in the presence of officials from the service bodies of the Autonomous Administration of North and East of Syria, and a number of residents of the city of Qamishli, at the organization’s headquarter in the city of Qamishli.

Euphrates Development Organization launched an initiative (Together towards a Better Society) within the activities of the Community Cohesion Project.

– A Better Hope for Al-Tabqa Organization

Better Hope for Tabqa held its third coordinating meeting, which is devoted to searching for mechanisms of cooperation and coordination to work to integrate families returning from al-Hol Camp into the local community. This meeting was devoted to tribal sheikhs in the region, and many tribal sheikhs and clan notables attended, in addition to the deputy of the Executive Council in North and East of Syria. This meeting is the third of its kind, as special meetings were held with the Civil Administration in Tabqa and a special meeting for organizations operating in the city, in order to search for a mechanism to provide support to these families.

– Furatna Organization

Together We Rise Project

In the partnership with the ARDI Program, Furatna Organization for Developement targets marginalized groups of young men/women who dropped out of school and people with special needs, in addition to other marginalized groups such as the displaced, divorced women, widows, ethnic minorities and unemployed householders, with vocational training workshops aimed at providing them with experience and the ability to enter the Labor Market and integrate them with society.

– Balloon Organization

Thirty children from the city of Raqqa participated in the “Let’s Read” initiative implemented by the “Balloon Organization”, to encourage them to use the interesting method of reading and public speaking.

The Department of Case Management in the Tafaaoul Shabab Organization facilitated the opening of the Department of Physical Therapy, targeting children, orphans, widows and families in need in the city of Raqqa.

– Khetwa Organization for Development and Improvement

Today was the final day of the Masarat Project, where the Children’s Step Association and their families participated in what was accomplished during the training, where the children participated in reciting poetry, mental arithmetic competitions, intelligence games and an exhibition of children’s drawings, in addition to giving recommendations to the parents by the psychological support officer. The celebration ended with the children being crowned and distributing gifts to them.

– Preparation of the 2023 work plan .. the most prominent outputs of the meeting of local administrations and the environment

Today, Monday, the Local Administrations and Environment Authority in the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria held its periodic meeting, in the presence of the joint presidency of the Local Administrations and Environment Authority and the joint presidencies of the bodies and committees of local Administrations and the environment in the Autonomous and Civil Administrations of North and East Syria. The meeting dealt with the challenges and difficulties facing the work of local Administrations and committees and the environment, and the meeting concluded with preparing an action plan for the year 2023 in coordination with the executive councils of the Autonomous and Civil Administrations of North and East Syria, especially road projects.

– Discussing The issuance of licenses for media coordinators.. The most prominent outputs of The meeting of The media Department

Today, Monday, the Media Department of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria held its periodic meeting, in the presence of the joint presidency of the Information Department of the Autonomous Administration and the joint presidencies of the media offices of the Autonomous and Civil Administrations of North and East Syria. The meeting discussed the work of the media offices in the Autonomous and Civil Administrations, and evaluated the media reality in North and East of Syria, and concluded with several outputs, namely completing the documents of the licensed media outlets in North and East of Syria, holding meetings with journalists and reporters in Manbij and Tabqa, discussing granting licences for content makers through the YouTube platform, forming a committee Concerning the granting of licenses, confirming the continuation of opening training courses for journalists and reporters in the Autonomous and Civil administrations, confirming the work of the media law and its executive regulations, discussing the issuance of licenses for coordinators and working on them in accordance with the media law and its executive regulations.

– To see the water situation, a UNICEF delegation visits Kobani and the Euphrates River.

Today, Sunday, a delegation from the UNICEF office visited the Public Water Department in Kobani; To view the water situation in the area and make the necessary reports and disclosures. The delegation visited the Euphrates River, and got to know the mechanism of bringing water to homes, and the problems that the region suffers from due to the low level of the river and its negative effects.
