Coalition News:

In February, the Coalition’s Technical Team conducted a new round of meetings and visits in the governorates of Raqqa, Deir ez-Zor, and Hasakah. Several events were organized, including rallies, advocacy campaigns, and specialized discussions with experts to support the sectors of services, health, and agriculture.

The meetings commenced on February 1st in the city of Qamishli, where the health expert met with stakeholders from medical organizations and institutions specialized in the healthcare sector in the Jazeera region. Private healthcare sector participants were also involved. The activity aimed to study the healthcare situation in Northern and Eastern Syria, discuss the needs, challenges, and propose necessary solutions to support this sector.

On February 3rd, 2024, Dr. Abdulrahim Khalif, the agriculture expert, and the Alliance’s technical team met with stakeholders in the agriculture sector, including the Agriculture Authority for Northern and Eastern Syria, agricultural organizations, and the Farmers’ Union. The meeting aimed to discuss issues related to the agriculture sector.

On Feb. 4, a meeting was held as part of the mobilization and advocacy activities in al-Jazira Region. A delegation from local organizations in al-Jazira Region visited the Fuel Directorate in Qamishli, accompanied by the technical team of the Coalition Office, to discuss the issue of fuel, including heating fuel, generators, and agricultural fuel. The meeting discussed fair distribution criteria for quantities and the necessary needs for the materials, as well as exploring proposals and establishing a suitable mechanism for complaints.

In the same week, the General Board of the Alliance met in Qamishli over the course of two days, along with the local boards of the regions of al-Jazira, Raqqa, Deir ez-Zor, and Euphrates. Several issues were raised during the meeting, including:
1. Feedback on the project activities.
2. The role of the General and Local Boards.
3. The general context in the four regions.
4. Evaluation of the mobilization and advocacy workshop and selection of a new issue.
5. Discussion of updates on the work of the experts and the challenges they face.
6. Humanitarian appeals and solidarity actions.
The preparations for the upcoming three forums and the general conference were also a focus of discussion. There was an open discussion about the Coalition, its organization, internal issues, as well as presenting recommendations and proposals specific to the Coalition and its work.

During the second week of February, the local board of Raqqa held a meeting with its affiliated technical committees. The meeting began with a discussion about the feedback on the project activities and the ongoing work, as well as preparations for the upcoming phase. Several focal points were emphasized, including:
1. The working mechanism of the experts and technical committees and the current challenges.
2. Humanitarian appeals and solidarity actions.
3. Discussion about the general context of the region and the selection of a new issue for mobilization and advocacy.

In the third week, meetings were held in Mahimida with the local board of Deir ez-Zor and its affiliated technical committees in Deir ez-Zor. Similarly, in the city of Tabqa, the local board of the Euphrates region, including Tabqa, Kobani, Manbij met with its affiliated technical committees. In Qamishli, the local board of al-Jazira province also discussed the same previous agenda.

In the same third week, on Feb. 19, health expert Dr. Kassar met with the Health Committee in Deir ez-Zor, and in another meeting, he discussed the health situation, challenges, and difficulties faced by stakeholders working in the health field in Deir ez-Zor.

On Feb. 20, in Raqqa, agriculture expert Dr. Abdulrahim Khalif met with stakeholders in Raqqa to discuss the agricultural situation, identify challenges and difficulties, as well as address the production and marketing needs faced by the agricultural sector and farmers. Similarly, in Tabqa, on Feb. 12, the same agenda was discussed.

As part of the Good Governance of the Water Sector project in al-Jazira and capacity-building efforts, the Environmental Protection Association (EPA) held the third dialogue session out of four planned sessions. The session took place in the city of Hasakah.
